Stage Collapses From Storm at Ottawa Bluesfest

So I'm trolling our Facebook and Twitter accounts this morning to find out what happened over the weekend, and I see a post from guitarist Mike Keneally saying, "So we're standing on the side of the stage at the Ottawa Blues Fest watching Cheap Trick killing it...then this happens," followed by this link to a CBC News Canada story that describes how a violent thunderstorm took down the main stage at the Ottawa Bluesfest yesterday (Sunday 7/17). A YouTube user named gastorch997 posted brief footage of the collapse here.

According to the CBC, at least three people were injured, one seriously, as a result of the collapse. The storm, which produced lightning and winds up to 55 miles per hour, blasted through the area 20 minutes into Cheap Trick's set. If you look closely at the photo (Marc Desrosiers/Canadian Press) below, you'll see guitarist Rick Nielsen's black-and-white checkerboard-painted backline. According to a post on Cheap Trick's Facebook page, no one in the band was injured: "Everyone is okay and we are so lucky to be alive and hope that all the fans are okay too."
