The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that a collection of ten 10-foot tall Gibson Les Paul sculptures will be placed in prominent locations in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in tribute to the town's most famous son, Les Paul, as part of the national GuitarTown Project.
A Waukesha steering committee will select artists to turn these white fiberglass sculptures into works of art and subsequently choose prominent locations in and around downtown Waukesha to display them.
Les Paul, the "father of the electric guitar" as well as an inventor and prodigiously talented guitarist, was born in Waukesha in 1915 and is buried in the city's Prairie Home Cemetery. He died August 12, 2009, at age 94.
