Nine New Guitar Video Lessons From Joe Bonamassa
We've just posted nine exciting new guitar video lessons by Joe Bonamassa, truly the best blues-rock guitarist of his generation. In these videos, culled from his Hot Licks DVD, Bonamassa discusses his blues, country, and acoustic guitar soloing approaches as well as his slide, bending, and vibrato techniques, and how to get a great guitar tone.
As usual, Bonamassa is keeping a very busy schedule these days. Yesterday (9/25) saw the release of Joe Bonamassa: Beacon Theater - Live From New York, a double album containing 20 career-spanning tracks including "Dust Bowl," "Midnight Blues," and "If Heartaches Were Nickels."
Additionally, Bonamassa's been hard at work on Black Country Communion's third studio album, Afterglow, which will be released on October 30. You can download the brand-new track "Confessor" here.

Top 5 Jimi Hendrix Guitar Solos
Yesterday (9/18) marked the 42nd anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's untimely passing from this world, and even 42 years later, it's still astonishing to consider the impact he made on rock music and especially rock guitar in his brief career. In recognition of his genius, here are our five all-time favorite Jimi Hendrix guitar solos. Click on any song title to get official guitar tab, video song lessons, or jam tracks.
5. The Wind Cries Mary
A nod to his idol Curtis Mayfield, Jimi slides and hammers on double stops with a supple power that's cooler than cool.
4. Are You Experienced?
Once heard listening to this solo likened to watching reverse footage of a black hole swallowing a star gone supernova. Yep.
3. Voodoo Child
This tune features not one but two brilliant solos, and it's the outro take that rules the roost here, plied with reckless abandon, fiery passion, and sheer might.
2. All Along the Watchtower
Jimi's solo in this Dylan cover is a four-part, 65-second opus magnum. Each section leads seamlessly to the next and is eminently hummable yet features striking wah-wah technique, slide lines played with a cigarette lighter, and daring 1-1/2 step bends. Simply magical.
1. Machine Gun
As the War raged in Vietnam and war protests raged Stateside, Jimi Hendrix made his most political musical statement with this battery of sound. Robin Trower says, "Jimi's solo in 'Machine Gun' took guitar playing to a new level. It was bluesy, soulful, primal, and tormented." Need we say more?
B.B. King Turns 87
The King of the Blues, Mr. B.B. King, turned 87 on Sunday (9/16), and the "Blues Boy" sounds as sweet and powerful as ever.
Despite his advancing age, King is still out on the road doing what he does best. Having recently wrapped up a series of dates with the Tedeschi Trucks Band (featuring the husband-wife team of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi -- see video below), King will head to Brazil for five dates in early October before returning Stateside for a fall tour that runs through early December.

Def Leppard Guitarist Phil Collen to Auction Guitar For Charity
(Los Angeles, CA) – Phil Collen, lead guitarist for the iconic rock band Def Leppard, announces plans for a charitable auction of "Wings," a custom Jackson PC1 guitar that Collen has played throughout this summer's Rock of Ages tour. The auction, taking place exclusively on eBay, began on September 5th and will end September 14th, the last date of the tour. The winner will be announced in November which is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and all proceeds from the auction will benefit the Gerson Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Gerson Therapy, an alternative treatment for cancer and other degenerative diseases.
In early 2012, Jake Willoughby, a guitar and music store owner, asked Collen if he would assist in helping to raise money towards the fight against cancer with Jake's mother having just passed away from pancreatic cancer after a courageous 13-month fight. By tragic coincidence Phil's own father, Kenneth succumbed to the same disease in 2004. Jake donated a Collen signature guitar, the Jackson PC1 from his music store. In the spirit of hope it was named "Wings." Mike Learn, a noted artist whose graphics are well known in the guitar world and who lost two family members to the same disease, donated the graphic custom paint job on the guitar.
Phil began researching companies that were not only looking to prevent cancer, but also reverse its devastating effects. He initially had heard about The Gerson Institute from Jeni Cook, a raw foods chef and the wife of Sex Pistols and Manraze drummer, Paul Cook. As Phil watched "The Gerson Miracle" DVD he was incredibly moved by their cause wishing he would have known about them before his father passed. The Gerson Institute is a non-profit organization in San Diego, California dedicated to providing education and training in the Gerson Therapy - an alternative, non-toxic treatment for cancer and other chronic degenerative diseases. The Gerson Therapy, developed by Dr. Max Gerson in the 1920s, activates the body's extraordinary ability to heal itself through an organic, vegetarian diet, raw juices, detoxification, and natural supplements. Since this powerful, natural treatment boosts the body's own immune system, it is an effective method for treating not only cancer, but a variety of degenerative diseases including arthritis, heart disease, allergies, and skin tuberculosis. Dr. Gerson began developing the Therapy while looking for a way to manage his own debilitating migraines, a path that lead him to a holistic understanding of medicine that is finally gaining growing acceptance.
