Classic Rush Guitar and Bass Tab

Posted by Michael Mueller on January 31, 2014 at 9:46 AM

Canadian prog-rock trio Rush is one of the most successful and enduring bands in rock history. Their streak of gold and platinum album releases is surpassed only by the Beatles and Rolling Stones, and they're still one of the top touring acts on the scene. Their complex yet catchy arrangements and technical prowess on their instruments is stuff of legend, inspiring guitarists and bassists to hone their own craft for over 40 years now.

Now you can cop the guitar and bass licks of Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee using this newly posted guitar and bass tab for over 20 Rush classics. Learn how to play "The Spirit of Radio," "YYZ," "Closer to the Heart," "Working Man," "Red Barchetta," "Subdivisions," and more!

Official Dream Theater Guitar Tab

Posted by Michael Mueller on January 23, 2014 at 1:36 PM

This past fall, prog-metal masters Dream Theater released their 12th studio album—and first with drummer Mike Mangini on board for the entire writing and recording process—titled simply, Dream Theater. We posted the official tab for the first single, "The Enemy Inside," just prior to the album's release, and now we're excited to post the tab for the remaining eight tracks.

These nine songs were tabbed for us by Jordan Baker and Ryan Maziarz, who have transcribed every Dream Theater album since 2005's Octavarium. To create the most accurate tab possible for the songs on Dream Theater, Baker and Maziarz used isolated guitar tracks furnished to them by guitarist John Petrucci, thus providing a crystal-clear audio source.

We also recently posted the tab to the band's first and enduring hit, "Pull Me Under."

Dream Theater is currently touring all across Europe, returning to North America on March 20 for a date in Toronto, Canada, which kicks off a stint of 26 shows in 37 days. Check out the Dream Theater web site for a complete list of tour dates.

The band also recently released Live at Luna Park, a live concert DVD filmed over two nights in Buenos Aires during their "A Dramatic Tour of Events," in August 2012. Here's a clip.

The Beatles released "Paperback Writer" in 1966 as a single, and it immediately went to the top of the charts not only in the U.S. and U.K. but also in Ireland, West Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Norway. Written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, the song with its memorable opening riff has become one of the band's myriad all-time classics.

Now you can learn this timeless track from our brand-new video song lesson taught by Doug Boduch and including onscreen guitar tab

Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks to Leave Allman Brothers Band

Posted by Michael Mueller on January 9, 2014 at 9:57 AM

Guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks announced last night (Wednesday, January 8) that they will be leaving the Allman Brothers Band at the end of 2014.

"For 25 years and 15 years respectively, we've had the honor and pleasure of playing, living, learning, and traveling with the Allman Brothers Band, one of the truly legendary rock and roll bands. We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm, and support of the incredible fans. We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band. We are looking forward to seeing our loyal ABB fans at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta this Friday night January 10th and in March at the Beacon Theater in New York City as we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the band."

Haynes joined the band in 1989, at the age of 28, for a reunion tour with no assurances that he would become a member. But after discovering "uncanny chemistry," in Haynes's words, not to mention a wildly successful tour, the band invited him to become a full-time member.

"Now, here we are, 25 years later, and it has been an amazing experience," said Haynes in a separate statement. "The original version of the band was a huge influence on me and I'm sure that the countless hours I spent listening to and studying that music helped shape me as a musician."

Haynes says he plans to maintain a brisk schedule, including Gov't Mule touring and recording, solo projects, and family time.

Trucks joined the band when he was just 19 years old. "It was out of the blue and felt surreal—I leapt at the chance," he said in a separate statement. "This was the music that I had cut my teeth on and it was the distinctive sound of Duane's guitar that inspired me to pick up the instrument in the first place. It's a difficult decision to make, and I don't make it lightly."

Trucks says he plans to focus on the Tedeschi Trucks Band, his namesake project with his wife, blues singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi.

It will certainly be interesting to see which guitarists get the call for these coveted spots.
