Guitarist Eric Clapton has played on some of the greatest rock tracks of all time. Sitting near the top of that esteemed list is "Layla," by Derek & the Dominos. A timeless epic, the song was named for a character created by 12th-century Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi. But the real "Layla" that Clapton was singing about was Pattie Boyd, wife of his friend and Beatles guitarist George Harrison, and object of his then-unrequited love.
In our newest G-Plus Song lesson, instructor Doug Boduch walks you through every riff, chord progression, and solo, including Duane Allman's legendary slide guitar extravaganza during the outro piano coda.
