Posted by Michael Mueller on July 28, 2017 at 3:21 PM

Featuring a number of memorable riffs and scorching solos, "Hangar 18" has become one of Megadeth's most popular and enduring tracks among metal fans and guitarists alike. Taken from their 1990 release, Rust in Peace, the song has roots in "Call of Ktulu," one of the last tunes that Dave Mustaine wrote while in Metallica. Though articulated very differently, the two songs share a common progression in D minor.

In this new lesson, instructor Chris Buono offers over 2 hours of step-by-step video instruction on how to nail not only that cool D minor progression but also each and every one of the song's high-octane guitar lines.

Learn How to Play "Every Breath You Take" by The Police

Posted by Michael Mueller on July 21, 2017 at 2:05 PM

When it came time to add a guitar part to a new ballad Sting had written for the Police's 1983 release Synchronicity, guitarist Andy Summers found inspiration in the music of Bartok and his own past success. "One morning in my kitchen I was practicing some Bartok, and working on a piece I was writing for my album with Robert Fripp," Summers told Guitar Player in a 1994 interview. "I was fooling around with those stacked fifths we'd used in 'Message in a Bottle' and 'Invisible Sun,' adding the ninth, and then I threw in the third at an odd point. Suddenly I realized it lay perfectly over that single progression."

In this new G-Plus Song lesson, instructor Doug Boduch teaches that riff (and the rest of the tune) note by note, including crucial tips for avoiding hand fatigue.
