Paul McCartney Met John Lennon 60 Years Ago Today

Sixty years ago today, a 15-year-old Paul McCartney met 16-year-old John Lennon, at the Woolton Church Parish festival, where Lennon's band the Quarrymen were playing. In an effort to impress Lennon, McCartney borrowed a guitar, retuned it (Lennon used an open-G tuning at the time), and played Eddie Cochran's "Twenty Flight Rock" and Gene Vincent's "Be-Bop-A-Lula." McCartney's initiative would lead to the pair joining forces a month later, but no one could have predicted that they would eventually become, along with guitarist George Harrison and drummer Ringo Starr, the greatest pop act in music history.
It should come as no surprise, then, that we have more Beatles song lessons, guitar tabs, video lessons, and play-alongs—over 1,250 in all—than for any other artist in our catalog. So pick a few of your favorites and learn them this weekend.
