MARC RIZZO to Release New Album and Tour

Posted by Michael Mueller on December 15, 2009 at 10:00 AM

Marc Rizzo guitar tabMarc Rizzo has temporarily stepped out from his six-string tour of duty with Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy to deliver his new solo project, Legionaire, on Phlamencore Records. This new albums reveals a phenomenal command of the guitar for which Rizzo has become known and respected in guitar circles.

Legionaire was written and recorded over a two year period, while touring worldwide with Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy. Having time to write this record while on the road and in between tours, Rizzo would break and get into the studio to record, then back out on the road. "I'm really excited about this record," exclaims Rizzo. "I had a lot of time since my last record to really think about this new album. I think traveling all over the world and writing all the new material really influenced the sound. After two U.S. solo tours in 2008, I think I really figured out what songs work well live. I'm really excited to play these new songs in front of a live audience. It's very cool to see kids slam dancing and going off to instrumental music."

Rizzo is touted a master musician with deep musical roots in metal, classical, and flamenco guitar. His raw energy combined with the talent of a new-generation shred-master is a much needed breath of fresh air to the instrumental rock genre.

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax to Perform Together

Posted by Michael Mueller on December 15, 2009 at 9:03 AM

Metal guitar tabThe world wide web has been abound with speculation on a possible "Big 4" tour for several months. Now, the UK/European Sonisphere can exclusively reveal that Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax will play together for the first time in history, on June 16, 2010, at Bemowo Airport, Poland, in a move that will have metalheads across the globe frenzied with excitement.

Says Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich: "Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time...Bring it on!"

"It's about time this happened," says Slayer guitarist Kerry King, "and about time the fans finally get what they want. This is awesome."

"People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984," says Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. "That's twenty-six years of expectation! And the thing is, I believe not only will we live up to the expectations, we will shatter them! No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this. Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, the Who and Zeppelin had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead? Well, I may be getting into some rarified air here but as a fan, that's how big I feel this is."

These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand. In addition to the June 16 show in Poland, a second Big Four appearance is planned for Sonisphere Czech Republic three days later, with more Sonisphere shows featuring the awesome combo to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

"This is a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity for heavy metal fans to see the four greatest heavy metal bands in American history back together on one stage," concludes Megadeth main man Dave Mustaine. "If there are any heads left at the end of this festival that haven't banged, they don't belong there."

Fret 12 Offers New LESLIE WEST Instructional Guitar DVD

Posted by Michael Mueller on December 9, 2009 at 6:21 PM

Leslie West guitar tabJust got a copy of the new Leslie West instructional guitar DVD from Fret 12. Truly one of the under-appreciated guitar heroes, West has influenced such modern guitar luminaries as Joe Satriani, Zakk Wylde, and Mark Tremonti, among others. In fact, all three of the aforementioned pickers appear in the video, offering testimonials as to West's importance to guitar playing, in the documentary portion of the DVD.

But first and foremost, this is an instructional DVD. In it, West offers tutorials on his favorite fretboard patterns, string-bending, soloing, getting your guitar tone, major-minor contrast, and much more. You also get a tour of his live guitar rig as well as a factory tour of the Dean Guitars custom shop, where they make West's signature model.

BOSS Unveils eBand Jam Along Tool for Guitarists

Posted by Michael Mueller on December 7, 2009 at 2:10 PM

Boss JS-8 Just in time for the holiday season, BOSS is pleased to ship the eBand JS-8 Audio Player with Guitar Effects, the portable audio player designed for guitarists who play and practice at home.

eBand is the audio player that combines playback of full songs, backing tracks, or rhythm loops with high-quality BOSS guitar effects and a built-in stereo speaker system. This all-in-one solution is ideal for guitarists who want to learn songs, solos and riffs, practice new songs outside of band practice, play along with any of their own collection of music, or create new songs while jamming with audio tracks.

Loading music onto eBand couldn't be easier, with direct playback from any standard USB memory stick or SDHC memory card up to 32GB. eBand also has the ability to import songs from any audio CD using the included utility software.

Unlike traditional audio players, eBand lets guitarists interact with their music by changing the pitch and tempo independently, or using the advanced Center Cancel function to remove guitar or vocal parts. eBand comes with 300 backing tracks and rhythm loops which also include pre-programmed guitar effects.

eBand is loaded with powerful COSM preamp technology, authentic BOSS-quality guitar effects derived from the BOSS GT-10, and over 100 preset guitar sounds from every musical genre. To help navigate the possibilities, eBand includes the EZ TONE function, providing an intuitive, easy-to-use approach to sound creation based on graphic icons. In addition, tuner and metronome functions are built in, keeping guitarists on time and in key.

Not only can players jam along with eBand, they can record their musical ideas as well using the included USB audio interface. Pressing the Record button during a jam-along session will create and save a new audio file with the entire performance.

Bluesman T-MODEL FORD to Release New Album in January

Posted by Michael Mueller on December 7, 2009 at 1:31 PM

T-Model FordBluesman T-Model Ford, who by several accounts is either 84, 87, or 88 years old, is set to release his seventh album, The Ladies Man, on January 12, 2010.

Recorded at Planet Sound Studios in Wichita, Kansas, the album is the product of a live, one-take afternoon session with no overdubs and minimal mixing. Ford wanted to play acoustic guitar and have 100 percent control over the record, and everyone involved in the project agreed he should do it the way he wanted. The result is pure T-Model, with some newer, young musician-friends playing along with him.

You can get a free MP3 of his track "Two Trains" here. If you like what you hear, you can buy the album here.
