Heaven & Hell Set To Reveal The Devil You Know

Posted by Michael Mueller on February 11, 2009 at 9:40 AM

Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice returned to the stage after 15 years in 2007, launching a triumphant world tour as Heaven & Hell. Revitalized and inspired by their time on the road, the quartet recently returned to the studio, recording the band's first album since 1992's Dehumanizer. The  highly anticipated album, The Devil You Know, will be available from Rhino on April 28.

"Everyone had so much fun playing together that we didn't want it to end," says the group. "We started writing together and the songs started flowing like we never stopped. We wound up writing and recording an album that stands up to anything we've ever done. We're really proud of the music and excited for people to hear it."

The seeds of the new album were planted in 2006, when Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice returned to the studio to record a trio of new songs for Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, a recent compilation of essential tracks taken from the quartet's four albums together. Soon after, the band launched a run of sold-out shows around the world, electrifying audiences with its malevolent metal fury.

The new album, not surprisingly, exudes a rather dark tone made evident in song titles like "Bible Black," "Rock & Roll Angel," "Breaking Into Heaven," "Atom & Evil," and "Eating the Cannibals."

TED NUGENT'S Love Manifesto

Posted by Michael Mueller on February 10, 2009 at 3:35 PM

Ted NugentEven if you don't agree with everything the guy says, you've got to admit:Ted Nugent is one romantic son of a gun. As Valentine's Day approaches, Nuge has created a playlist—his love manifesto—for romantics everywhere. The multi-platinum guitar icon, outspoken activist, outdoorsman, host of the popular Outdoor Channel TV show "Ted Nugent Spirit Of The Wild," and author of the 2008 New York Times best seller Ted, White, and Blue: The Nugent Manifesto, has come up with 10 songs that ought to stoke the fires of love. Serve these up with some leg of antelope, a hearty syrah (Budweiser will do, in a pinch), a bearskin rug (only if you brought the bear down yourself), a cracklin' fire, and some camo lingerie, and your girl is sure to feel like the luckiest lady in the world!

  1. "Wang Dang Doodle" Howlin’ Wolf
  2. "The Flame" Cheap Trick
  3. "Whole Lotta Rosie" AC/DC
  4. "Wango Tango" Ted Nugent
  5. "When A Man Loves A Woman" Percy Sledge
  6. "I’ve Been Lovin’ You Too Long" Otis Redding
  7. "Feels Like The First Time" Foreigner
  8. "My Love Is Like A Tire Iron" Ted Nugent
  9. "Brown Sugar" The Rolling Stones
  10. "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" Ted Nugent

We love this guy!

RIP Buster B. Jones - Fingerstyle Virtuoso

Posted by Michael Mueller on February 10, 2009 at 3:07 PM

It is with a sincere feeling of loss that we say goodbye to guitarist Buster B. Jones, who passed away on February 2nd, 2009.

Born Bradley F. Jones in Ames, Iowa, in 1959, Buster was known to some as "Machine Gun," or "Pistola," for his lightning-fast playing style. The late Chet Atkins once said, "Buster B. Jones is the best fingerpicker I've heard since Jerry Reed. He plays like he's double parked."

His amazing skills as a fingerstyle guitarist were recognized in 1988 as the Winner of the first Guitar Player Sound Page competition. At that time, GP's Tom Wheeler said of Buster, "Brad flatpicks a brilliant counter-rhythm against his amazing 5-finger fingerpicking for breathtaking effect. His blazing, clearly articulated lines were delivered with power and imagination over intricate counter-rhythms."

Buster was also honored as the 1990 US National Fingerstyle Champion and was a clinician for Godin Guitars. Click here to visit Godin's tribute page to Buster.
