Comments vocalist Bruce Dickinson, "We have great fun playing the History of Maiden Tours because it gives us an opportunity between new albums to go out and play songs from our earlier catalogue. It's always fantastic seeing the crowd reaction from a new generation of fans who have never experienced some of these tracks performed live before, and of course we know our longstanding fans will enjoy seeing the original Seventh Son Tour re-visited  - with many other surprises!"

In most venues, tickets will go on sale on March 2 and 3 but watch this site or check local venue information for fuller details. Fan Club members should check out for exclusive first day ticket presales and contest to be "First To The Barrier."

In what should be welcome news to the ticket-buying public, Iron Maiden is working with promoters to arrange a paperless ticketing system, in an attempt to eliminate as much ticket scalping and third-party sales as possible, helping to ensure fans pay no more than face value—especially for prime seats.

Top 10 Hair Metal Power Ballads

Posted by Michael Mueller on February 10, 2012 at 11:13 AM

Does anything suggest Valentine's Day quite like a long-maned, make-up-wearing dude pronouncing his love via song to a girl who may or may not be as pretty as said dude? Yeah, yeah, make fun, but all joking aside, few artists do love songs quite a hair metal power ballad, and since those songs form the soundtrack of my youthful romances, they will always hold special significance for me.

So, here are our top 10 hair metal power ballads. And in case you want to serenade that special someone with one of these tunes this Tuesday, February 14, click on the title to get the guitar tab or a lesson!

10. "I'll Be There For You" Bon Jovi
Any song that proclaims "I'd die for you" marks a pretty strong proclamation of eternal love, hey?

9.  "High Enough" Damn Yankees
Even Nuge's gum-chawing posturing with that zebra-striped PRS and matching cape couldn't kill the mood.

8.  "To Be With You" Mr. Big
Yes, I'll have the power ballad, hold the power.

7.  "Hysteria" Def Leppard
Hysteria is typically not a good thing, but I think the Sheffield boys were simply reaching for hyperbole to describe when they "get that feelin'."

6.  "Love Is on the Way" Saigon Kick
If you're wondering where the "power" in this ballad is, it's in the downright spine-tingling chorus vocals, my friends.

5.  "Sweet Child O' Mine" Guns N' Roses
Cue that sweet Axl sway and sing "Oh, oh, oh, ooh ..."

4. "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" Poison
What was it with hair metal guys wanting to be cowboys?

3. "More Than Words" Extreme
When your rhythm section waves their lighters, you know you've got a hit.

2. "Heaven" Warrant
Want to write your own power ballad, this arrangement is the ultimate template. RIP, Janie.

1.  "Love of a Lifetime" Firehouse
If marriage is the ultimate symbol of everlasting love, then the hair metal song most often heard at weddings must be the ultimate power ballad.

#1-Plus: "I Remember You" Skid Row
OK, THIS is the greatest power ballad—ever. Sebastian Bach's pipes, that rockin' solo? Oh, yeah! Unfortunately, we don't hold the rights to offer the guitar tab. (Hint: the main riff is G-Cadd9, occasionally it goes to open D, and the chorus is G-D-Em-C. Shh ... don't tell.)

Eddie Van Halen Back in Top Form at L.A. Forum

Posted by Michael Mueller on February 9, 2012 at 3:38 PM

Like so many guitarists of a certain age (let's just say we've reached the other side of the vaunted hill), hearing and seeing Eddie Van Halen for the first time in our teen years, back in the early '80s, sparked the desire to pick up and learn how to play the plank.

But then came the train wreck. I recall taking a former colleague to see the reunited "Van Hagar" at Madison Square Garden about six or seven years ago; it was the first time he'd ever seen Eddie play live, and well, "embarrassing" doesn't begin to describe Ed's downright painful performance. We left that show thinking it was all over.

But with the band's new album, A Different Kind of Truth, and its accompanying U.S. tour, the guitar gods have seen fit to give Ed one more chance, and judging by the following video of his guitar solo at a private event at the Los Angeles Forum a few nights ago, Eddie has tapped into the fountain of youth and capitalized on the opportunity. This six-minute clip shows an energized Eddie Van Halen in top form, and as a result, has me very excited for this year's stop at the Garden, where I hope to be once again bowing to the master.

In a live video stream from their web site on Tuesday, February 7, legendary metal band Metallica announced the creation of the Orion Music + More annual music and arts festival, which will take place on June 23-24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Metallica guitar tab"We've had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years," said Lars Ulrich. "Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bring Orion to our fans, friends and the curious.  After the most incredible of weeks ever in December 2011 celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA, bringing the spirit of that week, the looseness of that week, the possibilities of that week, the fan interactive elements of that week, and the (fill in your own blank here) of that week to a festival setting is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves."

Here are more details from the official press release:

Orion Music + More will feature multiple live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of Metallica's band members many personal interests.  Metallica will headline both nights of Orion Music + More and play "The Black Album" in its entirety one night Ride The Lightning in its entirety the other.  This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012. The lineup for Orion Music + More will span multiple musical genres. From punk to country, over 20 bands will perform, including: Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, The Gaslight Anthem, Cage The Elephant, Fucked Up, Best Coast, Hot Snakes, Titus Andronicus, Gary Clark Jr., Lucero, Roky Erickson, The Black Angels, The Sword, Liturgy, and more to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Metallica Met Club fan club presale starts February 8th at 10am (Eastern) and runs through Friday, February 10th at 10pm (Eastern). Met Club members get first dibs on buying festival tickets and with a couple of options to choose from.

- A Super Special Price at $125 including all fees for a 2-Day pass OR

Carlos Santana Live at Montreux 2011 2DVD Set Due February 21

Posted by Michael Mueller on February 9, 2012 at 12:45 PM

New York, NY--Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Santana Live At Montreux 2011 on a 2DVD set and Blu-ray in a exhilarating set of jazz, Latin, funk, soul and rock 'n' roll. The 23-song show weighs heavily on the side of the songs that fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist (inducted in 1998) have loved over the years.

Carlos Santana guitar tabFilmed in high-definition and recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital 5.1 and LPCM Stereo, it's a total jam-packed evening of percolating percussion, soaring lead guitar solos and the kind of funky bass/drum action that has kept this band in the forefront of popular music for over 40 years.

Live At Montreux 2011 is a career-spanning show that covers all the bases: from Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va," Fleetwood Mac's "Black Magic Woman," Babatunde Olatunji's "Jingo" and Willie Bobo's "Evil Ways" to John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme." Carlos Santana has always had a knack for making his cover versions become spectacularly his own. His interpretive flair reached its zenith with 2010's Guitar Heaven which contains his scintillating take on Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love." Add his numerous originals, including "Smooth" and "Maria Maria," his signature style of inspired and spiritual guitar playing and you have the kind of DVD that burns with intensity.

Extras include interviews with Carlos and Cindy Blackman Santana, and a very special peek behind-the-scenes. Guest artists include the husband/wife guitar team of Susan Tedeschi and Allman Brother Derek Trucks as well as drummer/wife Cindy Blackman Santana. Over three hours long, this is the Santana concert his fans have been waiting for!
