Biography

Being blind from infancy never stopped Doc Watson from becoming a legend among guitar players. Widely acknowledged as one of the best flatpickers in the business, his complete mastery of country and bluegrass styles was self-evident to anyone that's ever heard him play. Folklorist Ralph Rinzler, who discovered Watson in 1960, once said the guitarist was "single-handedly responsible for the extraordinary increase in acoustic flatpicking and fingerpicking guitar performance," and that his flatpicking style had no precedent in earlier country music history. Watson passed away at age 89, in 2012, leaving one of the greatest legacies in guitar history.
