Biography

Classically trained as a pianist and violinist, guitarist Tony MacAlpine was one of the pioneers of the neoclassical shred guitar movement that set fretboards on fire in the mid-1980s. His first two solo albums, Edge of Insanity (1985) and Maximum Security (1987) are required listening for fans of the style and for guitarists who yearn to burn. In addition to the 12 solo albums he has released, MacAlpine has also played in rock fusion outfit Planet X and held down guitar and keyboard duties in Steve Vai's touring band from 2003-2006.
