Biography

Larry Carlton is one of the most recorded guitarists in history. As a first-call Los Angeles session player he recorded with artists from every imaginable genre, ranging from Steely Dan, Michael Jackson, and John Lennon to Joni Mitchell, Jerry Garcia, and Dolly Parton. He was a member of the jazz/rock group The Crusaders and later launched a successful solo career. Carlton's instrumental remake of Michael McDonald's "Minute by Minute" won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1987. His live album, Last Nite, released in 1987, was also nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance. Cartlon's silky smooth tone and phrasing got him his very own spot on Hollywood's prestigious Rockwalk in 1999, and Rolling Stone magazine lists his tasty ascent on Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne" as one of the three best guitar licks in rock music.
