Biography
Few guitarists have achieved the dual personae of George Benson. He's one of jazz's most gifted technicians, effortlessly churning out incendiary bop lines in the style of his heroes Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, and Tal Farlow. But unlike those hallowed names, the Grammy Award-winning Benson has also tasted grand commercial success. His landmark 1976 album, Breezin', was the first jazz album to sell over a million copies-his first of four platinum records-and his renditions of "This Masquerade" and "On Broadway" are modern standards and also showcased his magical talent for scat-singing while playing guitar.
In this set of lessons from his revered Hot Licks instructional guitar video, Benson covers chord substitution, turnarounds, octaves, chromatic movement and more.
