Cornell Dupree

Biography

A self-taught guitarist, Cornell Dupree crafted his signature style from the deep Texas blues of T-Bone Walker and Lightnin' Hopkins as well as Johnny "Guitar" Watson and country artists such as Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb. Over the course of his 40-plus year career, Dupree has played on literally thousands of sessions and worked with a staggering list of artists that includes James Brown, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Donny Hathaway, Elvin Jones, B.B. King, and Jimmy Smith, as well as a 10-year tenure with Aretha Franklin. He is also author of Rhythm & Blues Guitar (Hal Leonard).
